(GivenUs.com) -Everyone is born with unique advantages and strengths. But letting those unique characteristics shine? That’s not always easy, especially when self-doubt makes them difficult to recognize in the first place. It’s often easier to see your own weaknesses than to identify your own strengths — but there is a fix.
David Rendall explains in his TEDxTalk how self-doubt affected him and what he overcame in this inspiring video.
Don’t be discouraged by weaknesses in your life. Here’s how you can turn your insecurities into strengths.
- Recognize your weaknesses. Is life tumbling in an unknown direction? It could be because you’re not recognizing your weaknesses front and center. In David’s case, he had an issue with hyperactivity that held him back in certain situations. By acknowledging it, he was able to use it to excel in public speaking.
- Talk to a confidant. Weakness fuels self-doubt, making it challenging to find something productive to focus on. Find someone, anyone, who will be your muse and inspire you. This could be a friend or trusting family member. Sometimes it takes an outside perspective to gain insight into your own strengths.
- Partner with others. Being the best at a particular skill or hobby may be high on your priority list, but if you continue to struggle with it long-term, it might really just not be your thing. That’s okay! Try partnering with others for a little push along the way. Use their skills, paired with yours to accomplish your goals and needs.
We all need to accept the fact that we are excellent at some things and, frankly, just plain lousy at others. It’s especially frustrating when you just can’t get the knack of something you’ve tried so hard to master. The most important lesson, here, is to STOP beating yourself up over it. Take time to find what you excel at and build from there. You can turn your weaknesses into success!
