(GivenUs.com) – Eating between meals can occur because we’re hungry, or even bored. It might be challenging to know what and when to pop a snack. But is there a method to it?
TheCareAndFeedingOfDivas explains there’s actually an art to it here:
So what are the basic rules of snacking? Let’s explore.
- Make friends with your hunger. It’s our body’s natural way of telling us it needs fuel to keep running. Pay attention to a growling tummy. Fine tune the stomach and brain relationship and only eat when you need to.
- Never eat out of boredom. It’s easy to grab a burger or eat a bag of chips really quick. Your stomach and brain would both be content, but that’s not the result you’re really after. Fill those desires with something other than comfort food. Like a walk or meditation.
- Indulge, but be smart. Snack in moderation. Keep foods on hand that are satisfying and low in calories like carrots, pickles, almonds and grapes. Don’t deprive yourself — just eat smarter.
The art of snacking should be enjoyable and healthy. Don’t beat yourself up if you slip up from time to time. Changing how you think about what you eat will reap huge rewards in the long run.
